Helping the Community is El Ático's main purpose and we do this with the monies raised in both our clothes shop and household items warehouse in Playa Blanca, here's exactly how we help the local community. Obviously for data protection purposes and to respect the individuals privacy we cannot be overly specific but here’s some of the many ways your support helps.

 

1.) Cleaning - sometimes we are made aware of people whose house might be in need of a deep clean, this can occur for a whole range of reasons. We can arrange a specialist team of cleaners to go in and undertake a thorough clean of the house and if necessary any fumigation activity.

 

2.) Medical help - this can range from the very simple tasks like helping someone to get their prescription medications to arranging ambulance transport for ongoing medical appointments at the hospital to getting people admitted to hospital if their condition dictates that specific medical intervention is needed.

 

3.) Hygiene - imagine not showering or shaving, imagine not been able to buy the necessary sanitary products for you or your children, the El Ático team have helped individuals and families this exact situation.

 

4.) Food - the most basic of all human needs is to be nourished and hydrated, most of us won’t think twice about going to the fridge and getting what we need but unfortunately some people find themselves in such a desperate situation that even this basic need cannot be met. We have regularly carry out shopping for local families so that their cupboards and fridges are stocked with the essentials.

 

5.) Essential household items – do you have a favourite chair to relax in at the end of the day, is there no better feeling than your own bed at night, when you fancy a cup of coffee is the kettle at your fingertips, these are things we take for granted and yet some families find themselves needing these items if theirs breaks and they don’t have the funds to replace, we can either purchase these items or donate from the stock in our warehouse.

 

6.) Clothes - whilst our shop sells clothes at a very competitive price even that can be a step too far. It’s important to look smart for your first day at work or to ensure your new born baby is warm at night, so we will ensure families are provided with appropriate clothing for such situations.

 

7.) Income - sometimes all people need to see them through the bad times is a little extra cash whether that be until they start a new job or they access social security, we can help with that either through a one off payment or regular monthly amount depending on the situation.

 

8.) Support from authorities - we also ensure that any of the people we help are in touch with the right government agencies and authorities to access any social security help they might be entitled to. We also ensure that any ongoing support provided is suitable and appropriate, most of the people we help are incredibly vulnerable and we need to ensure they are protected.

 

The above is just a snapshot of how we can and do help the people in our local community across Lanzarote. All of this activity is undertaken by our Families in Need team who give their time for free to help out. Nobody wants to have to ask for help but we provide a safe and confidential route for our community should that need ever arrive.
